Cheyenne Mountain Zoo – Road Realignment & Historic Carousel Relocation Site Development | 2 Acres
As part of Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s Elevate Projects campaign, iiCON Construction partnered with the zoo and civil engineers to improve the visitor experience and support future animal exhibit expansion. A key objective was to reroute the main access road that once cut through the center of the zoo—previously forcing guests to share space with traffic near the entrance. The realignment created a safer, more immersive path for guests and allowed for the expansion of the giraffe exhibit. iiCON led construction efforts including utility relocation, asphalt widening, stone retaining walls, improved drainage, vehicle barricades, and pedestrian-friendly landscape islands. In tandem, iiCON relocated the zoo’s historic carousel. The original building was disassembled and demolished, and a new home was constructed near the Grizzly Grill. Pathways, drainage, and landscaping made the new site feel like it had always been part of the zoo. To enhance the Rocky Mountain Goat Exhibit, iiCON also built a custom boulder “mountain” to give the animals a natural climbing feature and improve the viewing experience for guests.
