Criminal Justice Center Emergency Repairs
After severe spring rainstorms caused extensive water damage to the kitchen at the Criminal Justice Center, El Paso County discovered the facility’s aging roof, covering approximately 69,000 square feet, was failing and in need of replacement. Due to the interior damage, the County was forced to rent a temporary kitchen at a cost of nearly $100,000 per month to maintain meal service for inmates.
iiCON Construction was selected as the best-value contractor for this critical project, not only because of our competitive bid, but because of our ability to understand the County’s urgency and deliver on an accelerated schedule. Our team mobilized quickly and implemented a phased approach to restore the kitchen and replace the roof, completing the work a full month ahead of the timelines proposed by other bidders.
The kitchen renovation included a new resinous flooring system, improved floor drains, a rooftop make-up air unit, and the installation of an Ansul exhaust hood system. Simultaneously, we replaced the existing roofing with a durable TPO system, incorporating new flashing and a re-certified lightning protection system—all while maintaining operations within the occupied facility.
