Penrose Elementary School – ADA and Security Improvements Fremont RE-2 School District – Penrose, CO

As part of the 2022 Bond Program for the Fremont RE-2 School District, iiCON Construction and CSNA Architects were chosen to lead the design and construction efforts. From the initial bond planning phase through completion, our team maintained budget alignment and delivered meaningful improvements that addressed long-standing facility needs. Penrose Elementary, originally built in the 1960s, had undergone several additions—including one built during the era of open-concept classrooms, which presented safety challenges. Our team redesigned this area to include secure walls and locking doors, helping ensure a safer environment for students and staff. Accessibility was also a key priority. Previously, students with disabilities had to use platform lifts or go outdoors to access parts of the school. Our design introduced an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant interior ramp to provide inclusive, unrestricted movement throughout the entire building. Additional upgrades included a new security vestibule, enhanced building access controls, and improved surveillance infrastructure to support the district’s focus on modern school safety.
