Atlas Middle School Opening and Ribbon Cutting
iiCON Construction celebrates the completion of another K-12 construction project alongside the school community at Atlas Preparatory as they celebrate the opening of their new middle school with a ribbon cutting.
The event, held on July 26, 2025, marked the completion of Phase 1 of this Charter School construction project—a transformative renovation and expansion made possible in part by the Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) grant.
A Purpose-Built School for the Future
This project replaced an outdated facility — once two strip mall buildings joined by a breezeway — with a 44,000+ square-foot modern middle school designed to enhance safety, functionality, and the overall learning experience.
Key completed upgrades include:
-
Enhanced Security – The original 52 exterior entrances were reduced by 90%, with all remaining entry points converted to secured, fob-controlled access for greater safety.
-
Technology Advancements – Classrooms now feature upgraded electrical systems, abundant outlets, and the infrastructure to support Chromebooks, interactive touch boards, and future technology needs.
-
First-Ever Competition-Sized Gymnasium – Students now have a regulation-size gym for basketball, volleyball, and other sports — a first for the campus — enabling both practices and home games.
-
Dedicated Learning and Support Spaces – The facility includes 25 classrooms, four intervention spaces, a dedicated library, and collaborative learning areas.
-
Expanded Food Services – A larger food pantry and full-service kitchen provide improved nutrition access for students.
-
Student Lockers in the Hallways – A seemingly small but meaningful addition, lockers give students a personal space, foster time management skills, and add to the sense of a true middle school environment.
Designed With Students in Mind
Natural light fills the new building, creating bright, welcoming spaces that support both academic focus and student well-being. Chief Executive Officer Brittney Stroh expressed excitement about students experiencing the lockers and other features that make the new building truly theirs.
From Vision to Reality
Founded in 2009 with just 80 fifth graders, Atlas Preparatory has grown into a full K–12 program serving the Harrison School District 2 community in Colorado Springs. For years, the middle school adapted to an unconventional, non-purpose-built facility. With the completion of this project, that chapter has closed, replaced by a state-of-the-art campus designed for learning, safety, and growth.
